Wow... what a way to kick off the new school year. I took the boys on Wednesday to meet up with some friends from Raleigh. Thursday was our first day of school and I wanted to do something special. So, come morningtime we all headed southeast towards the beach. Our plans were to go to the Fort Fisher Aquarium at Kure Beach... home of Luna, their 5 year old female albino alligator. ((Legend has it that her nest was frequently robbed in hopes of retrieving at least one albino egg. After Katrina, her mother has yet to return and build her nests in the same spot and Luna may very well be the youngest known albino alligator in captivity.))

Anyways, we saw many interesting fishes, and a variety of other sealife. The boys learned about King snakes while waiting for the shark exhibit to begin. Jude was a little hesitant to rub the snake... unlike his mom who used to beg for them!
After spending most of the day at the aquarium, we decided to go to the beach and walk around, look for seashells, and such. Spotting a juvenile sting ray was a bonus!

It was such a treat to do this. The boys had fun and learned a lot. Today, was just a 'get to know your subjects, your books and your schedule' kindof day. Next week... let the learning commence :)
